Google Reader to Newsgator Mobile

I’m trying out a switch today from Google Reader to Newsgator again, since I just found their iPhone/Touch version. I’ve ben using Google Reader for quite awhile now, and have found it to be quite nice. I find now that I read most of my feeds while on the Touch, so the mobile interface has become important to me.

Google Reader has a decent iPhone/Touch interface, and it works well with their other products, Gmail and Docs. Lately though I am finding that it has some annoying issues that are making my feed reading a struggle.

When you select a feed item and go to it’s full page, it formats nicely most of the time. But where it gets annoying is when I follow off this page to the actual article page. It opens in a new window, which is fine, but upon closing and returning to Google Reader, I am put back in my main list and that article is marked read and gone away.

Too bad if I wanted to share it or star it. You have to do these things first, which doesn’t make sense if you can’t see the whole article and have gone off to read it.

Plus, I am finding that my feeds are not in sync using both mobile and web versions. I often have to scan through feeds that I’ve already read on one device, but not the other. We’ll see if Newsgator can deal with this better.

Making it up as I go since 1969
I run a web design shop in Manhattan Beach, CA. I'm a die hard nice guy. I started the Get Geeky South Bay, and also run the LA ExpressionEngine meetup. I live & breathe technology and the web, and drink way too much coffee.
