Google Spreadsheets as work log

I’ve used various methods for maintaining a work log over the years, but recently I wanted to migrate things to the web. I have web access now virtually everywhere I go. I also like the offsite storage concept over storing things locally that may get compromised in a fire or HD failure. Yes, I have backups running, but still. Things happen.

Since I am using GAFYD Pro, and I like it quite a bit for documents, I thought maybe a simple spreadsheet would work for now. But I also wanted to be able to add things easily. I created a simple work log spreadsheet in Google Spreadsheets, and then remembered the newly added forms capability.

Once created, you can share your spreadsheet which gives the option to use a form. Verify that the form is correct and then copy the URL it creates for that form. Open the link in your browser and bookmark it. I use my bookmark bar for this.

Now I have quick log entry ability no matter what tab/window I am in. I can log quick work and never have to go into the spreadsheet itself unless I need to. Very nice. This will also work for teams, since it’s a URL.

Once I have some stuff entered, I’ll have to see how the charting works.

Making it up as I go since 1969
I run a web design shop in Manhattan Beach, CA. I'm a die hard nice guy. I started the Get Geeky South Bay, and also run the LA ExpressionEngine meetup. I live & breathe technology and the web, and drink way too much coffee.
